The Walk To Annapurna Base Camp

After walking for 8 days and with a distance of 84 km, Kalirra Isis Athelage Don reached the base camp of Mt Annapurna in March and accompanying their 14 year old daughter were her parents, Ad Lincoln Wilson and Thanuja Darshini Jayagoda.  I have been given an opportunity to conduct an interview with Kalirra Don on May 2 and can't wait to speak to her and get the video interview done. Hannah Yeoh also wrote to her personally to express her admiration for the teenager who made her family proud and even her school. Selfless Service Of A Sikh

In the Guru Grant Sahib page 286 the definition of Sewa: "One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, shall attain his Lord and Master." It's a way of a Sikh. I share a cycling tale which happened few years ago. A friend who cycled Malaysia solo was introduced to some of my Sikh friends and without hesitation they humbly welcomed him to their homes, sharing shelter and food lovingly.  He learned new words and the most he liked was the Sikh greeting, Sat Sri Akal. The Sikhs have big hearts, I'm sure there are many of you who are not Sikhs with big hearts too and the word Sewa is not confined to Sikhs only.  In the wake of this virus and the hardship it has caused to many of us recently, the Sikh Gurdwaras has come forward to help with food serving Chapati, Dhall and Vegetables to those having financially difficulties or getting food on your table. Remembering The Late Giani Harcharan Singh Ji

I did mention that my cycling project will also generate articles on Sikhism and this will include meeting interesting people. Sometimes I get a story because I am at the right place, right time. I met Balwant Singh (white turban) who is 79 years of age at PJ Gurdwara recently and he spoke to me on the Iron bangle worn by a Sikh and death! I told him my Iron bangle was given to me by the late Gianiji Harcharan Singh Ji (Orange Turban) of Melaka Gurdwara. And I am dedicating my cycling to him actually. He said "You are doing a good deed and continue with it." I explained how I obtained my bangle some 4 years ago while I visited Gianiji in Melaka. We had a chat on spirituality and before leaving Gianiji had given me the Iron bangle as a gift and said may God lead me in truth and protect me always. It was a blessing and I was humbled and touched 🙏 When I heard of his passing, that broke my heart. Balwant was quick to remember the late Gianiji Harcharan Singh Ji too and spoke ab

Sikhs In Tampin

The "Gurdwara Cycling Tour 2022" will start on 7 May and both of us, Gurdev Singh and Jack Chan will flag off our cycling tourney from Tampin Gurdwara to Gurdwara Melaka, a historical city in the state of Melaka, Malaysia. I would like to account a little history about the Sikhs in Tampin. The Sikhs first arrived in Malaya around the early 1900's and Tampin town (based on records) were first visited by Sikhs in the 1920's. Most of these Sikhs were employed to work at railway stations, bus and lorry drivers, some took the post of policemen while some as labourers working and looking after cattle and at respectively plantations. On 18th September (based on records), it was stated that the first Prakash of the Sikh Holy Book Sri Guru Grant Sahib Ji was held at Gurdwara Sahib Tampin. Meanwhile the first Nishan Sahib Di Salami was held on the 23rd September, 1967 in the presence of Babaji Sant Sohan Singh Ji. The Gurdwara Sahib Tampin was then officially declared open

Visiting Sikh Gurdwaras On Bicycles

The "Gurdwara Cycling Tour 2022" is a 12 month cycling project which will be done in stages on weekends by Gurdev Singh and Jack Chan who are amateur cyclists from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "The idea of cycling and visiting every Sikh Gurdwaras around Malaysia was planned two years ago but when COVID 19 hit the shores we put the project on hold," said Gurdev. The dynamic duo also hope to create headlines by becoming the first Punjabi (Sikh) - Chinese (Christian) to form a cycling partnership to tour Malaysia on their bicycles and visiting the Sikh Gurdwaras nationwide, this includes Sabah and Sarawak too. "We plan to keep the ride 50km daily. For the first route, starting Saturday 7 May we will begin cycling from Tampin Gurdwara to Melaka Gurdwara (50km to be exact). We will cycle same route from Melaka to Tampin on Sunday 8 May," said Chan. The duo are cycling to create an awareness for teenagers and adults on the importance of cycling as it will lead to a
