Letter To Gurdwara Council Malaysia

Dear Mr Jagir Singh,

Greetings and Sat Sri Akaal πŸ™

As per telephone conversation on our Gurdwara Cycling Tour 2022, below is the recap:

1. We would like to have an introduction letter on our cycling tour and objectives as it will be forwarded to all the Gurdwaras in the country

2. We will cycle to all the Gurdwaras in Malaysia (or most of them) and this will be a feat never done before by a Sikh and Christian cyclist.

3. The objectives will be to educated older folks to start cycling and stay healthy at the same time to impart a reminder to the younger generation to attend Gurdwara for prayers and to stay away from vices ie smoking, drugs, alcohol, gambling which ills the mind, body and soul.

 4. We will record (video) one Shabad sang by the Gianiji from respective Gurdwara and interview the President as well with some photography.

5. We will obtain some basic info from each Gurdwara of establishment, Punjabi classes and other activities.

 6. To spread the teachings of Sikhism to non Sikhs. Are there any printouts that can be given out freely?

7. Questions that will be asked:

- How can we attract or encourage the younger generation to the Gurdwara?

- Why is Punjabi Education important and what is currently being done?

Thank you and grateful for your assistance and your prayers and blessings for us to make this inaugural journey a success.

Regards,

Gurdev Singh.

Visiting Sikh Gurdwaras On Bicycles

The "Gurdwara Cycling Tour 2022" is a 12 month cycling project which will be done in stages on weekends by Gurdev Singh and Jack Chan who are amateur cyclists from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. "The idea of cycling and visiting every Sikh Gurdwaras around Malaysia was planned two years ago but when COVID 19 hit the shores we put the project on hold," said Gurdev. The dynamic duo also hope to create headlines by becoming the first Punjabi (Sikh) - Chinese (Christian) to form a cycling partnership to tour Malaysia on their bicycles and visiting the Sikh Gurdwaras nationwide, this includes Sabah and Sarawak too. "We plan to keep the ride 50km daily. For the first route, starting Saturday 7 May we will begin cycling from Tampin Gurdwara to Melaka Gurdwara (50km to be exact). We will cycle same route from Melaka to Tampin on Sunday 8 May," said Chan. The duo are cycling to create an awareness for teenagers and adults on the importance of cycling as it will lead to a ...

Broga Cycling

On May 4th, 2022 Jack and myself will be doing a 40km cycling route. Our starting point will be from Broga town and departure is at 7.30am after our breakfast. From Broga, we will cycle through some scenic village routes until Kg Daching. From here, we will proceed to Bandar Tasik Senangin. This is a lovely residential area but sadly most of its houses are without the landlords. Many left it abondoned for whatever the reason, I don't know lah (probably the land is infected with termites). From the termite infected land, we will then head back to our starting point to Broga for lunch. This cycling exercise will prepare us for our weekend Gurdwara Cycling from Tampin to Melaka and vice versa. However, to those cyclist who are keen to join us for the inaugural cycling event, Jack Chan has prepared the program below: Gurdwara Cycling Tour 7-8 May, 2022 (Kajang-Tampin-Melaka-Tampin-Kajang). Train Schedule for Kajang- Tampin (Sat, 7 May 2022)  🚴Depart Kajang 6.23am and arrive Tampin at ...

Selfless Service Of A Sikh

In the Guru Grant Sahib page 286 the definition of Sewa: "One who performs selfless service, without thought of reward, shall attain his Lord and Master." It's a way of a Sikh. I share a cycling tale which happened few years ago. A friend who cycled Malaysia solo was introduced to some of my Sikh friends and without hesitation they humbly welcomed him to their homes, sharing shelter and food lovingly.  He learned new words and the most he liked was the Sikh greeting, Sat Sri Akal. The Sikhs have big hearts, I'm sure there are many of you who are not Sikhs with big hearts too and the word Sewa is not confined to Sikhs only.  In the wake of this virus and the hardship it has caused to many of us recently, the Sikh Gurdwaras has come forward to help with food serving Chapati, Dhall and Vegetables to those having financially difficulties or getting food on your table.
